It has a higher power capacity, life cycle, and faster charging option compared to other batteries. It is also known as electrical double-layer capacitor (EDLC) and has two plates separated by an electrolyte. The plates used in ultracapacitor are two layers of the same substrate. Despite having highly thin (in nanometers) physical layers, the electrical properties of these plates help to separate the charge effectively. The absence of heavy dielectric materials in ultracapacitors allows the packaging of plates with larger surface area within given dimensions, resulting in high capacitances in the given package.
