(Wireless-NewsWire.Com, December 20, 2013 ) Altoona, PA -- Sequel to a recent news article by Matt Smith published on November 5 on reuters.com concerning Vivendi which has reached an agreement in terms to give up its 53 percent stake in Maroc Telecom to the UAE's Etisalat in a deal valued at 4.2 billion euros ($5.7 billion), in the recent move in the French conglomerate's attempt to focus more on the media, DigitalOlympus.com comments on how Etisalat can expand in its new market.
The Reuters news piece revealed that in an effort to pay down its debts and upturn its shares, Vivendi is selling assets like Maroc Telecom and video games producer Activision Blizzard to focus on music and pay-TV businesses that it believes have greater growth prospect. The agreement for Maroc Telecom signifies a return to takeovers by Etisalat after a pause to assimilate some challenging acquisitions.
“Taking over Maroc Telecom, a leading service provider in Morocco may give Etisalat a huge boost in its margin,” says DigitalOlympus.com principal researcher Josh Cole. “We’ll advise Etisalat to take similar steps like firms which specialize in phone systems that is to find a lucrative niche in its new market and build on it.”
The Reuters report further indicates that according to separate statements from the buyer and seller on Tuesday, the deal which Vivendi revealed would possibly be finalized in early next year will see Etisalat offer Vivendi 3.9 billion euros for the stake, and an additional 300 million euros in 2012 dividends from Maroc Telecom.
Responding to the report, DigitalOlympus.com spokesperson suggested that “One of the ways Etisalat can establish its footprint in its new market involving Maroc Telecom is to carry out research with firms that specialize in business phones equipment in the country on how to meet the communication needs of its business subscribers.”
